Testing for Mobile Devices and Embedded Systems

Testing opportunities for mobile devices and embedded systems to reach a crescendo

The opportunity for mobile testing service providers will not just be limited to personally/company owned mobile equipment for work. With School administrators and curriculum planners recognizing the value of using smartphones and/or slate-like devices as academic tools the market is growing faster than expected.

Adding to this in no small measure will be the demand for automobiles with cellular connectivity which is set to become one of the fastest growing segments for mobile applications. According to Gartner, given an average global sales volume of about 80 million new vehicles per year from 2011 through 2014, automobiles with connectivity will become one of the fastest growing Internet-connected device platforms among other connected consumer electronics.

Likewise, Embedded Systems Testing will present itself as a major opportunity for testing services providers in the coming year/s.   As is the software content included in manufactured products such as telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, industrial equipment, aircraft, medical devices, cars and trucks growing rapidly, so is the software bugs and compatibility failures.

A case in point - If manufactured products such as cars, medical equipment and consumer electronics have 2 million lines of code, the best we should expect is between 100 and 200 software errors. This suggests the strong potential for software testing.
