Software testing - one of the fastest growing areas of corporate IT expenditure

As organizations seek to improve productivity and reduce application operating and maintenance costs, we will continue to see an evolution of software development and testing services, tools, platforms and practices. In this context, software testing has become one of the fastest growing areas of corporate IT expenditure. And most businesses are building offshore sourcing models into their testing propositions.

Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC) has found that global spending on testing software and services is currently out-stripping overall IT expenditure, and will continue to grow at a CAGR of 5.2% over the next four years. Worldwide spending on testing (including both internal and external testing skills, tools and related hardware and systems) according to PAC will reach approximately €79bn in 2010, and will nearly hit the €100bn mark by 2014.

Today, more and more enterprises are trying to separate testing from development as they are beginning to appreciate the value an independent testing vendor can bring onboard. Trends towards removing the ‘pain’ of testing and putting responsibility on testing vendor will be the driving force in 2011.
