In today’s world, enterprises have several systems that access functionality and data from various other external applications and devices. These external applications and devices may need to interface with the application at a data, component, user interface, network or operating system level. In such a scenario, interoperability and federation between these applications and devices are truly necessary for enterprises to function.

AppLabs provides this testing in an on-demand basis. Compatibility testing verifies that the product functions as expected on a wide variety of hardware, software, and network configurations which are planned on an identified set of compatibility combinations. Compatibility testing is conducted on the application to evaluate its compatibility with the underlying environment. This environment may contain some or all of the below mentioned elements:

• Operating Systems (UNIX, Windows, etc.)
• Databases (Oracle, Sybase, DB2, etc.)
• Networking hardware and Hardware Platform (Firewalls, Proxies, etc)
• Compatibility of peripheral devices like Printer, DVD drive, etc.

Compatibility & Interoperability Testing is aimed at verifying whether the application under test interacts and functions as expected with other software and hardware combinations. Thus, this test plays an important role in case any application/web site is required to run on different platforms with different software and hardware components.

• Whether the application under test will operate on identified user’s machines or identified operating systems?
• Whether it is compatible with existing data files and other applications?
• Which models of devices and other manufacturers of the similar devices are compatible with the application under test?
• Which versions of the software are compatible with application under test?

• Validate the compatibility requirements of the application under test system (i.e., to determine if it fulfills its system / functional requirements).
• Identify defects that might arise while testing on a combination of hardware and software environments.
• Report these failures to the development teams so that the identified defects are fixed.
