Automation and Accelerators

At the heart of automation is a basic human propensity – an indomitable fascination with eliminating unnecessary steps

In 2011, revenue growth will become the most important business imperative. Today more and more organizations are agreeing on the fact that cost cutting can get you only so far and not beyond. Increased customer demand and organic growth is the way to a sustained period of economic development.

That doesn’t mean organizations are going out of the way to be in with the latest in information technology. With costs still under pressure, growth opportunities limited and the tolerance to bear risk low, IT faces increased levels of scrutiny from stakeholders, both internal and external – like never before.

It is now clear that enterprises want best of both the worlds or should we best of the three worlds - cost, time and quality. It is in this landscape we have organizations aggressively considering automation, particularly in software testing by using software tools and accelerators. The reason for this zest is also pegged to basic human nature. At the heart of automation is a basic human propensity – an indomitable fascination with eliminating unnecessary steps which many sociologists see as the reason for human development.

Automation and tools that aid automation is predicted to eliminate at least 25% of labor hours associated with IT services by Gartner. This is a very logical expectation as the IT service industry matures and labor arbitrage is lesser seen as a value proposition, it will increasingly mirror other industries and a more industrialized model will evolve. Tools including accelerators and automation are part of this transition.
