How long have you worked in testing?

My total IT experience is 18 years. I have an engineering degree from an Indian university, and Masters degree in computer science from a university in Texas, USA. I have interacted with testing community for over 14 years, however, I have begun closely working with testing teams for last 6 years only, i.e., after I have joined AppLabs.

What are the main challenges of your role?

Fortunately challenges that I deal with are something I love to deal with. I enjoy supporting the rapid growth in various geographies (US and Europe), getting people skilled in the areas of demand and most importantly building IP that keeps our services most solicited and uniquely positioned in the market.

What are the challenges organizations face with new technologies and methods in relation to the testing industry?

  • Getting skilled work force
  • Proactive investment in training & research
  • Infrastructure investment (software tools and hardware)
  • Predicting the need ahead of the requirements
  • Tailored process to measure the quality of service, quality of product

What do you think will happen to the testing industry in the next 2 - 3 years?

  • Wider acceptance for Independent testing
  • Greater and earlier investment in testing; Testing budget will increase by additional 25%
  • Usage of quality dashboard to track quality indicators
  • Mandatory investment in Test Automation, Business Process Testing
  • Non Functional Testing areas (Usability, Performance and Security) becomes main stream
  • Testing is adopted as curriculum in the schools; Testing seen as viable career option
  • Compliance Testing will gain importance (industry specific, along with regulatory requirements)
  • Deal sizes will become bigger, and longer; End-2-End testing ownership with fixed bid agreements; Managed Testing Service Contracts
