Performance Testing of the Winter Olympics Website
The client is a leader in online news and original journalism, with a wider outreach than any of the newspapers in the USA. The client faced the challenge to build, design and maintain the official Winter Olympics websites, which were expected to see record traffic volumes of 300,000 concurrent users and 6 to 9 million total daily users; nearly double the normal capacity.
AppLabs’ performance engineers developed the automated scripts and mapped out how these would be executed against the business scenarios. The approach taken by AppLabs was to implement ‘last mile’ testing by engaging its peer-to-peer networking partner of over a million internet users. To ensure that the coverage was thorough, five different tests were performed in one night – a quick ramp up, sustainability, voting applications, caching systems and global load balancing.
