‘Career Tester’- right here, right now!

Software Testing has been historically a role that has been downplayed and in many instances got the short end of the production schedule.  But now a paradigm shift is in the offing  and just as software testing has broken free from the shackles of being just a part of software development process to a full- fledged industry, so will testing as a career.

Gone are the days when software testing was seen at bottom of the value chain. As new technologies come into play, the testing team will require time and training to use testing applications effectively. Today, because of the change in mindset this is seen by business as no different than a developer needing time to understand new technologies before taking advantage of them in development.

Different types of tests require different skills. Load and stress testing requires an understanding of the operational infrastructure, as well as the current transactional load and the expected transaction footprint of the application. Functional testing requires an understanding of the business rules, and integration requires architecture and technical skills.

Testing practices are continuing to evolve and organizations continue to invest in employee skills to stay current with new techniques that will improve effectiveness and keep up with changing technologies. Testers on their part, will have to continually increase their knowledge of new technologies and paradigms, so that they can communicate effectively with customers.
